Hacker Hive Acquisitions

This is meant to be a general shopping list of needs and wants that might be generally helpful, useful or plain old fun that we might want to keep in mind as additions for the communal space. By adding this list, we are given the opportunity to contribute if we happen upon something in your home, at a store or garage sale or even on the side of the curb.

HouseWarmingGifts

This is stuff we would like to have to first occupy the space on Aug 1. Please indicate anything you plan on bringing. It's a wiki, so add stuff, or argue against other stuff.
  • Folding Table(s) for project workspace and meetings
  • Chairs to sit down at meetings
  • Pencil sharpener
  • File cabinets
  • Bookshelves

Furnishings

In a communal space, organization and comfort are key. If you see something that you can store away until we have a space to put it into or have something of the like, do so. It is recommended that individuals don't get too ambitious in this so please don't pick up every raggedy curb find. A good rule of thumb would be that if you could pass up putting it in your home, it may be unwanted
  • Bookshelves and Heavy-duty storage shelves.
  • Sofas/Couches/Chairs
  • Desks
  • Microwave
  • Mini-fridge (or full size if you're feeling ambitious)
  • Other kitchen appliances (toaster oven, etc.)
  • Whiteboard for visualizing ideas

Library

An open exchange of knowledge is one of the key enterprises of this endeavour so I'm sure we are all looking forward to contributing and taking advantage of this feature. The philosophy behind this group should hopefully encourage people to contribute by no particular limitation of subject as it is as valid to bring a copy of Paradise Lost as it is to bring a coding reference book.
  • Technology
  • Subscription to Makezine?
  • Whitepapers
  • Textbooks
  • E-books?

Extras

I'm sure most of us have things that we've been holding on to at home hoping to find some use for and would be happy to share, but it's important for us not to make a communal space a dumping ground.
  • Chess Set
  • I have a 42" Plasma TV with all inputs fried except DVI (so it makes a good monitor). It will accept up to 1080i but 720p is the best looking setting. It's too big for my apartment -- HunterKing - 23 Jul 2009 (If we can't fit it into the space, it's not too big for my apartment if you need to get rid of it - MichaelDeese)
